| Emergency Water Storage (shelf life of Water Storage) All water has bacteria in it, unless it has been purified and sterilized prior to packaging. Bacteria grows with heat and light. After a few months the bacteria can reach levels that could make you ill. To ensure safe drinking water and to increase the shelf life of your water storage and to avoid rotating and dumping your water storage every six months, plan to pre-treat your emergency water storage with a product called "Water Preserver" for a 5 yr. storage.
